Atique Khan Yousafzai is a writer, researcher, and public servant from Kathapiran, a remote village in District Neelum, Azad Jammu & Kashmir. His family traces its origins to the Yousafzai tribe, whose ancestors migrated from Kabul, Afghanistan, during the eighteenth century and settled in the mountainous region of Kashmir. Raised in a traditional tribal community surrounded by the Himalayas, he witnessed firsthand the relationship between geography, culture, conflict, and human resilience. These early experiences inspired a lifelong interest in understanding the forces that shape civilizations, political systems, and human behavior. He completed his early education in Kathapiran and later earned a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Over the years, he has pursued extensive independent research in British, European, Arab, African, American, and Indo-Pak history, as well as political science, sociology, psychology, human geography, economics, and international relations. Since his teenage years, Atique Khan Yousafzai has devoted himself to studying the evolution of human societies and writing about the moral, political, and economic challenges facing modern civilization. His work seeks to connect history with psychology, examining how power, identity, fear, ambition, and self-interest have shaped nations and institutions throughout history. His first major book, The Illusionary Kingdom of My Selfishness, is the result of decades of observation, historical study, and philosophical reflection. Originally drafted as a manuscript of more than two thousand pages, it was later extensively revised and condensed into a focused volume that presents its core ideas with greater clarity and accessibility. The book explores the recurring patterns of human civilization, arguing that while kingdoms, empires, ideologies, and modern states have changed their outward forms across history, the underlying struggle for power, influence, security, and self-interest has remained remarkably consistent. Combining historical analysis with psychological insight, the author invites readers to reflect on the deeper forces that continue to shape humanity in the twenty-first century.
